HURON HIGH SCHOOL

1.  Attention all juniors and seniors.  Would you be interested in applying for a Research Apprenticeship in Biological Sciences at Cornell University this summer?  Cornell University provides a small number of highly qualified students the rare opportunity to join a top-notch laboratory at one of the world's leading research institutions.  It's an opportunity to work side by side with distinguished professors, post doctoral students, and other researchers.  Participants can earn six undergraduate credit hours as well.  See Mr. Blevins if you have a passion for science and would be interested in a placement in molecular biology, cancer research, animal physiology, or many other areas.

Auditions for this year's Musical - Cinderella (Broadway Version) - Will be Monday, February 8, from 6-9, Tuesday, February 9 from 3-6. Call backs, if needed, will be on Thursday, February 11, from 3-5 and EVERYONE for Dance Audition on Thursday from 6-9.  All auditions are at the high school choir room. AUDITION PACKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON TUESDAY AFTER 5TH PERIOD.

Seniors are reminded to please turn in your graduation papers to the high school office.  These were due Friday.

4.  Attention all Seniors: Diploma Lists are posted inside the Guidance Office. Be sure to stop by and check for you name on the Top 10%, Honors, and Diploma of Distinction.  If there is a problem, please see Mrs. Fahr.  The last day to verify is Feb. 11th by 2:45pm.


5.  New scholarship in Guidance Office:

FIRELANDS POSITIVE PEOPLE AWARD – Scholarship awards ranging from $500 to $3,500 or more available to students with a focus on those who have faced and conquered exceptional obstacles.  Please stop into the Guidance Office for more information and applications.  DEADLINE IS MARCH 1, 2016.

6.  Attention all Seniors: Honor cord applications are available in the Guidance Office NOW!  You will need to attach a copy of your unofficial transcript to each application.  All applications are due by Feb. 19th at 2:45pm.

7.  Attention all students who are interested in voting : You may vote in the March 15 Primary Election for President if you are still 17 years old, as long as you will turn 18 by November 8.  Please see Mrs. Merckens for a voter registration form in room 206 and return them by Friday, Feb. 5.

8Attention all students interested in applying to EHOVE: The deadline to apply for 1st round applications is Feb. 5th.  Please make sure to submit your application online today at www.ehove.net if you are interested in attending!

9.  Anyone looking for volunteer hours with an interest in helping seniors at the Veterans Home learn to use the internet?  A new program called "Cyber Seniors" begins Saturday, February 6, from 10am-11am.  A sign-up sheet is on the counter in the office.  Six volunteers are needed.

10.  Huron Public Library news:

Tuesdays are Game Night featuring different games for various ages every week, 6 - 8:30 pm. Registration required.

Rockin' Readers Book Group meets Wednesday, February 3 at 6:30 and 7:15 pm for those who have registered.

February 4, Thursday Chess from 5:30 - 7 pm. All ages and abilities. No registration. Drop in and play.

Creative Themed Collage, Thursday, February 4 from 6 - 8 pm for grades 7 and older. Registration required.

Teen Library Council meets Friday, February 5 at 2:45 pm.

Books2Movies features "The Help", Saturday, February 6 at 2 pm. Registration required.

Coming up:

Blind Date with a Book for the month of February. Teens- Find your next great book without looking!

Valentine Chess Tournament, Saturday, February 13 from 9 am - 5 pm. Middle and High School divisions with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards. Cost:$1; Lunch provided. Additional food available.
