HURON HIGH SCHOOL
ANNOUNCEMENTS - THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2016

1.  The Tiger Union will be closed periods 1-3 today for a meeting.  Please report to Study Hall.  

2.  Attention students interested in ART CLUB. Stop by the ART room (211) this week  to sign up.
You do not have to be in Art to be in ART Club. You do not have to attend every meeting to be in art club. Come to the ones that fit your schedule. Hope to see you there!

3. 
Attention students interested in Model United Nations: There will be a brief meeting in room 206 today.  Students will select nations.  See Mrs. Merckens with any questions.

4.
Students taking the ACT  at Port Clinton High School this Saturday are reminded that doors will open at 7:45 AM and the Test will begin promptly at 8:00 AM.  Students MUST have your ACT Ticket with Photo printed on it AND a Photo ID.  If you do not have both items, you will not be admitted for Testing.  Students should also bring an ACT approved Calculator and two # Pencils.   

5.  The yearbook club will have its first meeting on Monday, Sept. 12, right after school in room 99. If you are interested in being involved, you must either show up at the meeting or see Mrs. Lee sometime before the meeting.


6.  ELKS MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP – Several four-year scholarships available to high school seniors with leadership qualities and financial need.  For more information and to apply, visit enf.elks.org/mvsDEADLINE TO APPLY IS NOVEMBER 30, 2016.

Other scholarships available to Seniors:

 The "Elks Student of the Month" applications are available in the guidance office.  If selected as a student of the month, you will not only be entered into the local scholarship competition but also have your bio in the Sandusky Register and be invited to a scholarship dinner in May.  There are numerous scholarship opportunities available so don't hesitate to apply!
Applications are due by Friday, September 30th.

AES ENGINEERS SCHOLARSHIP Scholarship award of $500 available to graduating seniors to help in the furthering of their education.  Criteria is based on character and determined by an evaluation of a required essay.  More information is available in the Guidance office.  DEADLINE TO APPLY IS OCTOBER 6, 2016.

THE PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS PROGRAM – Several awards and recognition opportunities for any high school students who have been making a difference through volunteering in their community.  Interested students are to fill out an online application at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.nassp.org/spirit.  Stop into the Guidance Office for more information.  DEADLINE TO APPLY IS NOVEMBER 8, 2016..

 ·       HORATIO ALGER ASSOCIATION – Several scholarship awards available to students with at least a 2.0 GPA who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.  Interested students may apply online at scholars.horatioalger.orgDEADLINE TO APPLY IS OCTOBER 25, 2016.

 ·      ROBERT A. KLINGER CO., L.P.A SCHOLARSHIP – Scholarship award of $1,000 available to high school seniors wishing to pursue post-secondary education upon graduation.  Written essays are required with your application.  More information is available in the Guidance Office and by visiting klingerlaw.com/scholarshipDEADLINE TO APPLY IS MAY 31, 2017.

 ·      FACING ACNE SCHOLARSHIP – Scholarship award of $2,000 available to high school seniors with at least a 3.0 GPA, wishing to pursue post-secondary education upon graduation.  Please visit http://www.facingacne.com/scholarships for more details about how to apply.  DEADLINE MARCH 31, 2017

 ·      ZUMPER COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP – Award of $1,000 available to outstanding high school seniors who have helped their classmates or community in a tremendous way.  More information can be found by visiting https://zumper.com/apartments-scholarshipWINTER DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 15, 2016.  SPRING DEADLINE IS APRIL 1, 2017.

7.   Attention all Seniors:  Ohio Wesleyan University will be visiting on Monday, September 12th at 9:00 in the Tiger Union.  All interested students should come to the Guidance office to sign up to to meet with their admissions representative.  You will be given a Tiger Union Pass on the day of their visit.

8.  Ripcho Studio will be here on Monday, September 12th, to take pictures of our faculty and underclassmen (9-11 grades).  Please remember to bring your picture form with you on Monday, filled out and with payment enclosed.  Stop in the office with any questions. 

9.  Lunch today is double dog day.
