HURON HIGH SCHOOL
MONDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2015
1.  This is a reminder for students that failed the vision screening a few weeks ago - you will be tested again today.  Hopefully you remembered to bring your glasses.

2.
  There will be a meeting this Thursday evening the 22nd at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria for anyone interested in participating in the Swimming and Diving team this year   Athletes and their parents are urged to be in attendance for this.

3.  The Girls golf team finished in 7th place at the OHSAA State championships this past weekend. Kylie Greulich finished her high school golfing career with a 78-78 (156), earning 2nd team All-Ohio.  Julia Hippely finish 18th with a 87-85 (171).  Congratulations to the Lady Tigers and Kylie.

The boys cross country team placed second in the Sandusky Bay Conference Championship race this weekend.  They were led by Shane Thatcher who finished 3rd in the conference and with first team all SBC honors.  Earning second team all SBC honors were Nathan Pack (9th place), and Casey Vancauwenberg (12th place).
The girls finished in 3rd place, only a point out of second.  Grace Moser earned first team all SBC honors in 7th place.   Sarah Neibler, who finished in 8th place, and Hunter Garbe who finished in 10th place both earned second team all SBC honors.
Good luck to both the boys and girls varsity teams who compete this weekend in the District Championship race in Galion, Ohio. 

4.  Community Service Opportunities:
Lighthouse Assembly of God food pantry is in need of students to hep with loading and unloading of plastic totes from a donation from fishing tournaments.  Helpers are needed from 3:30-5pm on each Saturday of this month.  This is a great way to earn community service hours.  Please stop in the Guidance office to sign up.

Making Strides against Breast Cancer walk of Erie County is looking for volunteers to work registration, accounting room, fun tent, merchandise tent and water stop tables.  The event takes place at the James McBride Arboretum @ Firelands College on Saturday, October 24.  Volunteers are needed from 7am-11am.  For more information go to makingstrideswalk.org/eriecounty.

5.  Attention all students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing through UT: There will be an informational session on Wed. Oct 21st at 4:30pm at Firelands Regional Medical Center South Campus, School of Nursing, 4th Floor, Room H.  You will need to RSVP to this event.  Please come to the Guidance Office if you are interested. 

6.  The "I ? Huron Football" t-shirts are ready to be ordered now.  These shirts are worn on Senior Night, the last home football game.  The t-shirts are on sale at Lucky Stone for $20 each.  The last day to order a shirt is Tuesday, October 20th, so please don't wait!  See Allison Gorby or Kaitlyn Krueger with any questions.

The Huron Public Library Teen Library Council Halloween After-hours Costume Party will take place Saturday, October 24 from 6 - 10 pm. Members need to pick up a permission slip and bring it and a side dish or dessert the evening of the event. Questions? Ask Ms Carol at 419-433-5009.
8.  The Huron Interact Club is an International Service organization of 13-18 year olds sponsored by the Huron Rotary Club.  To fund their first International project, the Huron Interact Club will be holding a spaghetti dinner and raffle on November 1st from 6-7:30pm at the First Presbyterian Church.  Dinner tickets are $10, and raffle tickets are $5.  Carryout is available and you do not need to be present to win a raffle prize. 

9.  Attention any senior who did not get senior pictures taken by Lifetouch/Woodard Photography. If you want to be included in the portrait section of the yearbook, you must participate in the FREE Woodard portrait session, during the morning of Wednesday, October 21. Pictures will be in room 107 from 7:15am to 9:15am to take FREE portrait shots of you just for the yearbook. Please plan and dress accordingly.  There is a sign up sheet located in the office for you to pick a time slot. The last day to sign up is Monday, 10/19.

RONALD McDONALD HOUSE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – Seeking high school seniors who are exemplary role models in their communities and have the initiative to fulfill their educational goals.  More information can be found at www.rmhc.org or to apply online at https://aim.applyists.net/RMHC. DEADLINE IS JANUARY 20, 2016.

11Did you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month? For a $1 donation you can buy a football during lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, to honor someone you know who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.  All footballs will hang in the cafeteria for the month of October to commemorate our loved ones. Crucial Catch will donate all proceeds to cancer research. Together we can make a difference!

12.  Attention all students who are taking a Bowling Green class 2nd semester at Firelands or HHS but are not currently taking one this Fall:  You must RE-APPLY to BGSU Firelands on their website.  You will not be able to take a Spring College Credit Plus Course if you do not re-apply.  Your deadline for all applications is Friday, Nov. 13th.

13.  Lunch today is General Tso chicken or a toasted Italian sub.
