Operation Street Smart Comes to Huron

Huron City Schools in partnership with the Huron Police department is pleased to bring Operation Street Smart to students, parents and community members. Two presentations are scheduled for Monday, February 9th. A morning assembly will be presented to high school students and an evening presentation, starting at 6:30 in the McCormick Junior High School auditorium is planned for parents, students, teachers and community members.

Operation Street Smart is a program developed by the Franklin County Sheriffs Office and is instructed by undercover narcotics officers and members of the Franklin County Community Relations unit. The morning presentation is geared toward students and is presented as an educational session promoting awareness, responsible decision making and encouraging students to live a drug free lifestyle.

The evening program is designed to educate parents, teachers, community partners, and anyone with a nexus to children about current drug trends, terminology, and paraphernalia. The goal of the presentation is to arm parents, teachers and community members with the information necessary to recognize the influences of the drug culture on children, familiarize them with the many different drugs our children face, and share the experience and knowledge of undercover narcotics officers so they are better prepared to help children make the right choices.

Operation Street Smart is one of several educational initiatives Huron Schools is planning in an effort to engage, inform and educate students to reduce and ultimately eliminate illegal drug use among high school students and young adults.
